Notable Partners

The direct ancestor of the firm was the renowned Berlin banking house of S. Bleichroder, and in 1881, the senior partner, Gerson von Bleichroder, became a Special Partner in Ladenburg Thalmann, forging a link with “the Bankers to Bismarck.” But the company’s other foot was planted firmly in London, with close connections to Leon Brothers, and particularly to the Guinness family. Benjamin Seymour Guinness was admitted as a Ladenburg Partner in 1902 and served actively until 1930. This trans-Atlantic link provided a means for European investors to take part in the westward surge of the American railroads.
